Summit

The World Summit on Internet and Multimedia (WSIM) is the significant global event on multimedia, internet and digital creative industries, hosted by the FIAM. The WSIM has been held in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe since 1998, as follows:

  • The 1st WSIM – “Infohighway and Multimedia” (Montréal, Canada, 1998,), hosted by International Federation of Multimedia Associations (FIAM); supported by Economic Development Agency of Canada, Québec Minisère d’État aux Affaires Municipales et à la Métropole, Québec Minisère des Relations internationales, Québec Direction de l’autoroute de l’information-Conseil du Trésor, and Montréal International.
  • The 2nd WSIM – “Content in the Digital Era” (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 2001), hosted by FIAM; under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of UAE; organized by Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation; supported by Etisalat, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, etc.
  • The 3rd WSIM – “E-humanity and Digital Divide” (Montreaux, Switzerland, 2002), hosted by FIAM; organized by SwwisMedi; supported by European Multimedia Forum, HP Ivent, etc.
  • The 4th WSIM – “ Multimedia and Digital Future: Linking China & the World (Beijing, China, 2004), hosted by FIAM; supported by Beijing Municipal Government, China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID), Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industrial Development, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press and Publication; organized by Beijing Xuanwu District Government, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-council (CCPIT-Beijing), Beijing Multimedia Industry Association (BMIA), Beijing All Media and Culture Group, etc.

  • The 8th WSIM – “Global South-South & North-South Cooperation in Digital Creative Industries” (Fuzhou, China, 2012), hosted by FIAM; co-hosted by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Fujian Provincial Government; supported by China’s Ministry of Culture, China’s State Administration of Radio, Film, Television (SARFT), China’s General Administration of Press & Publication (GAPP), United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Creative Economy & Industries Programme of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Organization International de la Francophonie (OIF); organized by the Economic Information Department of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Sub-council Fujian (CCPIT-Fujian), Fuzhou Municipal Government, in cooperation with World China Network Association (WCNA), Institute of Digital Francophonie (FIN), International Digital Media and Arts Association (iDMAa), Film Federation of India (FFI), etc.
  • The 9th WSIM – “Global South-South Cooperation in Innovative and Creative Services” (Chongqing, China, 2013), hosted by FIAM, supported by United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the International Trade and Commodities (DITC) of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), Organization International de la Francophonie (OIF); organized by Chongqing Municipal Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Committee, coordinated by World China Network Association (WCNA). The 9th WSIM is a joint international event of the 5th International Service Trade (Chongqing) Summit (ISTS), hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce, Chongqing Municipal Government; organized by Chingqing Municipal Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Committee, China Association of Trade in Services (CATS); coordinated by FIAM.

The FIAM has invited more than 400 senior experts from 60 countries to deliver their speeches for the WSIM and more than 250 international organizations (including governmental organizations, chambers of commerce, professional and industrial associations, educational and research institutes, financial groups and companies) to participate in various activities related to developing and promoting international opportunities and projects in multimedia, internet and digital creative industries during the period of the WSIM. More than 2000 local experts, service providers and entrepreneurs were invited to attend the WSIM.
